Going to Saturday Night Live and Laughing too Loud
About ten years ago, Tim McGraw hosted Saturday night Live. That's one of the most sentimental TV shows to me. Growing up, my dad loved to watch it, and we always watched it together. Seeing him laugh, along with my mom, made me so happy.
When Tim hosted, we got the chance to go to the show and the Star-studded after-party at some expensive steakhouse. SNL had an iconic cast that year— Kristen Wiig, Amy Poehler, (who I love love love love love) Jason Sudeikis, Andy Samberg, Will Forte, Darrell Hammond, and my s knees favorite — @BillHeder.
All Bill Heder said was, "Stop saying that!" And I lost it. I laughed so hard—I embarrassed Chris.
Hearing it back on A Hulu rerun, I did sound like a hyena in heat screaming out, and no one else laughed.
What he said and the way he said it reminded me of when our son Oscar was four and in the baby pool at a hotel in Hawaii. He was trying to play with these two little kids from Japan. And he had had about enough when he yelled, "stop talking like that!" He was too young to understand they were just speaking their language.
That was such a fun night. I had a great conversation with #AndySamberg -- who was exactly who you'd hope he would be. He talked about how he was obsessed with comedy growing up and dreamed of being on SNL since he was a little kid. We talked about writing songs. He is the composer of the classic - "Di@k in a Box" - after all. I got emotional when I met the creator and mastermind of SNL for the last 40 years, Lorne Michaels. "My Dad wouldn't believe this," I said. Andy sensed the tears coming and said, "let me take a picture for you to remember this night." …Here it is
With love,
